Character Creation

From Tour of Darkness Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Characters in the Tour of Darkness campaign must be men of military age, in the Army, in the Vietnam War. The character will be part of a team with a leadership structure, so keep this in mind when creating the character. A lone wolf can be fun to play, but it might be more difficult in a campaign like this. Also, the character should be made to be realistic, with hopes, fears, and everything in-between. Try to make a three dimensional character.

Character Creation

Character creation will be done using the Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition rules, plus any Edges and Hindrances from the Tour of Darkness book, except for what is noted below.

Starting Experience

You start out with the minimal amount of XP that would allow you to have the same number of advances as the member of the squad with the lowest XP.

Race

All characters are human, and all characters receive the bonus edge for being human.

Attributes

Attributes are assigned normally.

Requirements

The following are the minimum requirements for all characters.

  • Strength d6+ (must have to get through basic)
  • Vigor d6+ (must have to get through basic)

Skills

Skills are assigned normally. Also, the "Guts" skill will be used in this campaign.

Requirements

The following are the minimum requirements for all characters.

  • Shooting d6+ (learned in basic)
  • Fighting d4+ (learned in basic)
  • Throwing d4+ (learned in basic)

Recommendations

The following are recommendations that will help your character in this campaign.

  • Notice (paying attention is the best way not to get killed)
  • Stealth (being quiet is the next best way not to get killed)
  • Guts (it's a fucked up war out there, are you gonna' run or fight?)
  • Knowledge (Language: Vietnamese) (having a d4 in this means you can read and write basic words and commands)

Derived Statistics

Skills are computed normally.

Edges & Hindrances

Edges and Hindrances are worked normally, except that none of a characters starting edges (the one granted from being human or the ones granted from Hindrance points) may be offensive combat edges. Further edges granted from XP can be offensive combat edges.

Disallowed

The following are disallowed for all characters. Plus, as usual, I have veto on anything if it doesn't make sense to the setting or anything I don't want in the game.

  • Arcane Background, Arcane Resistance, Improved Arcane Resistance Edges; Any Edges requiring Arcane Background; Any Power Edges
  • Beast Bond, Beast Master, Healer, Linguist, Noble, Poverty, or Thief Edges
  • Anemic, Blind, Delusional, Elderly, Illiterate, Lame, Obese, One Arm, One Eye, One Leg, Wanted, or Young Hindrances (you wouldn't have been allowed in the army with most of these... any other ones you could have gotten away with)

Gear

Other than personal effects or some small item (no firearms), don't bother. You get all your gear from Uncle Sam. Though, that is not to say that having money won't be beneficial...

Rank

If you have not bought the Rank Edge, you can start as a PV2 (E2), by paying either:

  • 1 Skill Point
  • 1 Hindrance Point

Or, if you have not bought the Rank Edge, you can start as a PFC (E3), by paying either:

  • 2 Skill Points
  • 2 Hindrance Points
  • 1 Skill Point and 1 Hindrance Point
  • 1 Attribute Point
