To get a Military Award, a character’s direct leader must put him up for recognition. This is done after a mission, and usually takes a week or so for the paperwork to clear headquarters (tell the player after the next mission). The characters direct leader must put him up for a combat/bravery award or a Purple Heart (or both).

These types of medals and awards are awarded to characters who take great risk when fighting the enemy. The War Master should roll a d20 and adds the appropriate modifiers to the roll. The character then receives an award based on the roll.
